In December 2018, Netflix announced a new bio-scripted series about the life of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez and it seems the streaming platform has booked the actress meant to play the late icon.
As per Billboard, sources reveal that The Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos is in negotiations to play the late Tejano star in Selena: The Series and their final discussions fall on scheduling issues as she juggles production in Atlanta on the upcoming tenth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Over on the latter, Serratos, 28-year-old of Mexican and Italian descent, plays a zombie slashing character named Rosita. No additional details have been revealed about the casting but Vulture, which was the first to report on the news, detailed that production is set to begin in Mexico within the next month.
“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory,” Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla previously said in a statement. “With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”
According to Netflix’s press release (per Entertainment Weekly), the Quintanilla family will executive produce the show alongside Moisés Zamora, who is also writing the script. As you know, Selena’s legacy lived on after her death in the late ’90s when Jennifer Lopez played the superstar in the 1997 biopic film, Selena.
