HAILEE STEINFELD DROPS NEW TRACK ‘WRONG DIRECTION’

Hailee Steinfeld began 2020 by dropping her breakup track “Wrong Direction” on midnight Jan. 1.

The somber ballad features the singer looking back at her past relationship with an unfaithful partner who portrayed a “happy ending” but hurt her inside. Lyrics include “Looking back I probably should have known / But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleeping alone” and “on my tiptoes / but I still couldn’t reach your ego.”

Steinfeld first teased the song title over the weekend, leading many fans to think it was about her ex, former One Direction member Niall Horan. The pair reportedly broke up in December 2018 after first being linked together earlier that year, although neither has publicly confirmed the relationship. Horan also teased on The Tonight Show that his upcoming album, due out early this year, will be about breakups.

“Wrong Direction” is the singer and Oscar-nominated actress’ first single since “Afterlife,” which she released for her Apple TV series Dickinson. Steinfeld’s debut EP HAIZ dropped in 2018, followed by the singles “Starving” and “Let Me Go.” She has yet to announce plans for another album, but the new song certainly indicates she could be releasing more music in 2020.

Over the weekend, Steinfeld also posted to her Instagram Story what seemed to be a video from a table read for Dickinson. She stars in the popular series based on poet Emily Dickinson’s early life. The show is set to return for a second season, and production is already reportedly underway.
