Lindsay Lohan Wants a ‘Mean Girls’ Sequel as Much as You Do

There’s more than a 30% chance a Mean Girls sequel is already in the works. Lindsay Lohan dished on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live on Monday (April 27) about arranging a call with writer Tina Fey to officially make it happen.

After Rachel McAdams commented during a stream-a-thon just last week about how she’d love “to play Regina George later in her life and see where life took her,” Lohan confirmed McAdams isn’t alone in this wish. “I’m actually trying to get on a call hopefully in the next week or two with Tina and even [director] Mark Waters and Lacey [Chabert]. ‘Cause I’m close with a lot of the other cast, so just to kind of get us all on a call together and just see where everyone’s at, and [producer] Lorne Michaels and everything, the powers that be, to see what everyone’s thinking,” she said in the interview. “That would be my dream to come back and film a sequel to Mean Girls.”

Whether the limit exists to how many Mean Girl sequels Lohan and Co. can pull off, how would a 2004 comedy about mean girls in high school evolve when the characters should be well out of college?

As Cohen suggested, Cady Heron (Lohan), Regina George (McAdams), Gretchen Wieners (Chabert) and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried) would all be working. The 33-year-old singer-actress posed other questions that would need to be answered this time around: “It’s also a question of if they stayed in the same area and if they moved on or they keep in contact or how they keep in contact,” she said. “It would be really interesting to see where all they’re at now as grown, mature women.”

But as fetch as that sounds, it doesn’t compare to her first official single in 12 years, “Back to Me.” She wanted to come back to the entertainment industry stronger with a pulsating electro-pop song before another iconic movie role. “I think I’ve had a really long time of just figuring out if what I was going to do first: Would I come back doing film first or was it going to be music first?” Lohan explained. “And music’s come along because I was able to record it over here in Dubai, so that made sense. And just slowly integrating myself back into the industry with music felt more comfortable for me.”

She also revealed her previously teased single “Xanax” featuring Alma (who co-wrote “Back to Me”), which Lohan premiered exclusively on Instagram last fall before taking it down, will officially drop after the “Back to Me” music video — “an A- and B-side type thing.”
