Selena Gomez Reflects on the Playlist of Her Life in New Video: Watch

Selena Gomez’s latest interview today (Jan. 17) was with no one but herself. Capital FM left the Rare singer alone in a dressing room to sit down in front of a mirror and answer the five questions sitting in front of her about the music that’s inspired her and the woman she’s become.

Gomez opened the first envelope containing the first question, which asked what was the first song she ever loved. She unveiled that “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack from 2000 was the one. “Me and my nana used to love it, so it makes me think of home,” the 27-year-old singer elaborated. “But it’s a sweet song, I cry every time.”

As for the song that reminds her of where she’s from, Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” was Gomez’s tear-jerking pick because it made her reminisce on the house in Texas that built her. “There are some lyrics that says, ‘I think my handprints on the cement’ and ‘the backyard where her dog is buried.’ That’s all actually true for me,” Gomez revealed. “I had, when I was five, my handprints… we had a little shed in the backyard. The first dog that I had with my mom, we did have to bury. It was very simple in Texas growing up.”

Meanwhile, the songs she wished she had written were Adele’s hearty ballads, “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” or “Hello,” but she said she would “never touch an Adele song.” Last Thursday (Jan. 9) at her iHeartRadio Album Release Party, Gomez expressed her awe for the British singer-songwriter when Gomez told the audience she wished Adele would cover her No. 1 Hot 100 hit “Lose You To Love Me.”

“I would say those were two that I was like, ‘Man, I love that so much and I wish I had written something like that,” she said in the mirror.

But when it came to the envelope that asked about a song that reminded her of being in love, she drew a blank. “I don’t know if I have one,” she laughed off.
