Demi Lovato has put her troubles behind her, and she allowed the world observe the entire process.

On Friday (March 26), Lovato dropped the confessional new song “Dancing with the Devil,” the title track from her forthcoming album.

The Devil is, of course, in the detail.

Through the lyrics of “Dancing with the Devil,” Lovato reflects on her battles with substance abuse that nearly took her life in 2018.

On it, she sings: “I was dancin’ with the devil, out of control/ Almost made it to heaven, it was closer than you know/ Playin’ with the enemy, gamblin’ with my soul/ It’s so hard to say no, when you’re dancin’ with the devil.”

Lovato wrote the powerful new number with the likes of Bianca Deiandra Atterberry, John Ho, and Mitchell Allan Scherr.

“Dancing with the Devil” is the also the title song for Lovato’s warts-and-all YouTube Originals documentary, which opened the 2021 SxSW festival.

Her forthcoming LP Dancing with the Devil…The Art of Starting Over is due out April 2 via Island Records.
