Dr. Dre Is ‘Doing Great’ After Suffering Brain Aneurysm

Dr. Dre is recovering in the hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm on Monday (Jan. 4), Billboard can confirm.

“Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes,” Dr. Dre said in a statement Tuesday night. “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

According to TMZ, which first reported the news, the 55-year-old mogul was rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he remains at the time of publication. Dre is reportedly stable and lucid, though doctors are unsure what caused the aneurysm.

“He’s resting comfortably,” an attorney for Dre told Billboard via email.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy-winning producer, engineer and co-founding member of N.W.A produced a number of his own hits and multiplatinum albums throughout his career, along with crafting music for Eminem, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, Eve, Jay-Z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, the Game, Anderson .Paak and many more.

He founded Beats Electronics in 2008 with Jimmy Iovine and the duo later launched the Beats Music streaming subscription service. Apple acquired both in 2014. Dre is also the co-owner of Death Row Records.

Dre is in the midst of a divorce from his wife, Nicole Young, after a 24-year marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The couple has two adult children, 23-year-old son Truice and 19-year-old daughter Truly.

Dr. Dre has four children from previous relationships.

Late Tuesday, Dre’s N.W.A bandmate Ice Cube tweeted, asking followers to send “love and prayers to the homie Dr. Dre.”
