Nick Jonas Premieres New Songs ‘Spaceman’ & ‘This Is Heaven’ on ‘SNL’: Watch

Nick Jonas brought some brand new music to Saturday Night Live.

The 28-year-old singer, who pulled double duty as host and musical guest, premiered new songs “Spaceman” and “This Is Heaven” during his Feb. 27 appearance on the NBC sketch comedy show.

Jonas launched his first performance with new single “Spaceman,” a cosmic rhythmic song that touches on the fear of isolation during the coronavirus pandemic. Surrounded by futuristic lights and a background reminiscent of space shuttle control panels, Jonas gave a powerful performance with the help of his shadowy backing band.

For his second musical appearance, the singer was introduced by his older brother Kevin, who made a hilarious cameo during the monologue. Dressed in a velvety orange suit, Jonas picked up the pace for the debut of the uplifting “This Is Heaven,” in which he romantically sings, “This is heaven/ And I don’t know how this could get much better/ You and me, here right now.”

This marked his first time hosting and second time performing on SNL.

Both new songs will appear on Jonas’ upcoming third album, Spaceman, which is scheduled to arrive March 12 on Island Records. The 11-track set is his first solo release since 2014’s Nick Jonas, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

Earlier in the week, Jonas told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that much of his new solo work was written as “love letters” to his wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

“Most of the songs are pretty much just love letters, which, when I can’t articulate the way I feel with my words with no music, I go to the studio,” the singer said. “And I’m grateful to have that because it makes her happy, and that’s most important.”
