Selena Gomez Drops Demo Version of ‘Lose You To Love Me’ For Single’s Anniversary

Selena Gomez unveiled a special surprise for fans on Friday morning (Oct. 2): the original demo version of “Lose You To Love Me.”

“It’s been almost a year since I released one of the most important songs of my career and my first Billboard Number 1, ‘Lose You To Love Me.’ To celebrate with you, here’s the unreleased demo version that so many of you have asked for!” the pop star tweeted to announce the new version of the track.

“To love, love, you/ To love, love, you/ To love, you/ And now the chapter is closed and done/ To love, love, you/ To love, love, you/ To love, you/ And now it’s goodbye, it’s goodbye for us,” she croons over spare piano on the demo, using a version of the outro in the final studio version for the song’s bridge.

Back in Oct. 2019, the minimalistic piano ballad marked the beginning of Gomez’s long-awaited musical comeback, debuting at No. 15 on the Hot 100 before earning the star the first No. 1 hit of her solo career in its second week. The track served as the lead single for the star’s 2020 album Rare, followed by electro-pop anthem “Look at Her Now,” the empowering title track and the flirtatious “Boyfriend” — the latter of which appeared on the deluxe edition of the LP.

Since dropping Rare in January of this year, Gomez has collaborated with the likes of Trevor Daniel (“Past Life”) and Blackpink (“Ice Cream”), launched her long-awaited cosmetics brand Rare Beauty, and released fan-favorite track “Feel Me” — which she originally performed on her 2016 Revival Tour — as a special promotional single.
